Instagram makes it more accessible to re-share Reels you’ve already sent to friends

Instagram is testing a new feature that gives you quick access to your recently shared Reels. This makes it easier for users to re-share a Reel they liked with another friend at a later date.

An account based in Turkey called Digital Aglar shared a post about the feature. It indicated that Instagram shows a row at the top of your DMs labeled “Latest Stocks”. The screenshots posted by the account show that shared posts also show avatars of the friends you’ve shared a Reel with. If you share a short video multiple times, it will only appear once with the avatar of the friend you last shared it with.

The company confirmed the development of this feature to AapkaDost in a statement.

“We are introducing improvements to how you can find and rediscover Reels that were previously shared in posts,” a Meta spokesperson told AapkaDost. However, the company has not specified whether this feature shows other non-Reels posts in the latest stock section. It also gave no details on the rollout schedule.

It’s not really surprising to see that Instagram hasn’t included other types of posts since the company has been shooting more short videos in recent years. Last year it announced that any video shorter than 15 minutes will be shared as a Reels post.

The idea behind this new test is to get you and your friends to regularly share and watch short videos. You see a funny post, you share it with friends, and they open the post and keep swiping up to see more, and they see more ads…you get the idea.

Last week, Meta announced that it is ending the creator bonus program for Reels as the company will focus on other means of monetization, such as ad revenue sharing.
